World Wetlands Day
February 2nd each year is World Wetlands Day – chosen to mark the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, also called the Ramsar Convention after the Iranian city in which it was signed. Canada entered into the accord in 1981, and currently has 37 sites designated as Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Sites), with a surface area of 13,086,767 hectares.
The World Wetlands Day website has plenty of information, a place to register and find local events and other resources.
