HELPING TEACHERS INSPIRE COMPASSION FOR ANIMALS, PEOPLE & THE ENVIRONMENT

About

Five Fun Finds for February!

There are lots of opportunities to learn about animals, foster empathy and engage your students. Follow us on twitter or join our facebook group to regularly receive suggestions and ideas.

1. Participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count: (February 14-17). It can take as little as 15 minutes! It’s free, fun, easy—and your students can directly help birds and learn more about them in the process.  For more events, see our Kindness Calendarkitten cam

2. Check out a kitten cam and show it on your SmartBoard. Animal Cams are a great way to view animal life without needing to do all the clean up. We have links to other animal cams that feature both domestic and wild animals!

3. Sign up for a webinar! Green Teacher offers webinars throughout the year. Check out “Conquering Nature Deficit Disorder with Phenology” Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Visit the Green Teacher webpage to sign up for a free webinar. We post upcoming webinars and other PD opportunities in our facebook group

4. Play the Animal Hospital Video game!  This game from the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association allows the player to diagnose and treat animals that come into the clinic. For more links on topics such as choosing the right pet, reducing waste, random acts of kindness and virtual farm tours, visit our Kindness Links

5. Read an Animal Themed book! We know that stories can have a profound effect on empathy. We have lots of great recommendations in our aStore or order a free set of AnimalTales books.

Have you tried any of these or similar activities? Let us know by leaving a comment, or come and chat with us at an upcoming teachers’ convention!
