HELPING TEACHERS INSPIRE COMPASSION FOR ANIMALS, PEOPLE & THE ENVIRONMENT

Elm Street School, Medicine Hat

Miss Moore’s Kindergarten class enjoyed AnimalTales! Along with reading the books, they “adopted a class pet” which was a stuffed puppy and learned about how to care for the puppy by meeting its needs. (Food, water, shelter, exercise, playtime, etc.) Students also visited a local SPCA and to learn about homeless pets. Feeling empathy for these animals, they brainstormed ways on how they could help them feel more comfortable and happy while they waited for a home. The students decided to raise money to buy toys and comfy beds to help them cope with their time in the shelter, acknowledging that it was likely a stressful time for the animals. Students decided to hold a Candy Cane-O-Gram fundraiser and raised over $170, benefiting animals in the community.

“This has been an absolutely amazing experience and their passion, compassion, and empathy for the fair treatment of animals continues to amaze and inspire me everyday” said their teacher Miss Moore.
