My name is Sam, and I grew up in Saint Albert, Alberta. I now call Sturgeon County home, but did live in Edmonton. I have always loved interacting with animals. I grew up with a dog and a cat and have continued to adopt them. I grew up in the suburbs, so I didn’t have the chance to interact much with wildlife or livestock but was always very curious.  I was taught to be kind and treat animals with respect and compassion. Although we use farm animals for our own purposes it does not mean that they do not feel, so we must treat them ethically.

I am still very infatuated with animals. I developed a passion for insects in university that turned into a career in honeybees.  I have had honeybee colonies in the past but now work with them only at work.  I still have a dog and a cat in my home. Although I would love to have more animals, I understand the care and time they require. I am always learning more about animals and use this knowledge to be constantly improving the care I give to all animals in my life from honey bees to my dog at home.
